Where to pay tithing

Tithing is a vital part of every true Christian . It's quite essential since the Bible specifically states we pay not give tithe. But in the modern days the Church has had it's own views on taking the 1/10 of our income to the church where some greedy pastors and other Church leaders turn people's sweat into their wealth though not all are like this.I was just wondering what if you were to honour God with your tithes by other means such as feeding the hungry; helping the poor e.t.c. Would that be proper tithing?

Hi,I agree with you that the present Church, having been invaded by materialism, has distorted the biblical teaching on tithes and offerings. However, I don't think God expects us to modify our obedience to His command based on the obedience or behavior of others.
It is commendable that you (correctly) believe that tithing is a biblical requirement today. Some Christians don't! My view is that you go ahead and obey the command as stated in scripture. Bring the tithe to the Lord's storehouse, to the Church where you receive your spiritual nourishment.
Whatever the stewards do with it is their responsibility. They will be called to account. Just make sure that you are in a Church where the doctrine and practice are substantially in agreement with the Bible. If not, pray and participate in bringing a change. Otherwise, move elsewhere so you avoid the internal struggle about whether your money is going to the right place.
Secondly, there is a place for offerings, alms and other philanthropic acts IN ADDITION TO tithing. These are freewill offerings that you give as led by the Spirit and by your own observations. Give in order to appreciate God's goodness; give to be a blessing to your Church and to help it fulfil its missionary role; and give in order to meet the needs you see around you, in the Church and outside.

Hello dear, I agree with Haggai.
The tithe must be brought to the house of the Lord... That's scripture

Malachi 3:8-10 "Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, How are we robbing you?
'In tithes and offerings.
9. You are under a curse you whole nation because you are robbing me.
10. Bring the whole tithe into the store house, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty and see if I won't open the floodgates of heaven and pour our blessings that there will be no enough room to store it (NIV BIBLE). GOD BLESS US ALL (AMEN) .

Above all are spoken about Old Testament practice but New testament or New covenant (through blood of Jesus Christ) seems not speaking about tithe to church. I wonder if Jesus spoke about tithe to church....
Jesus himself said
- give what it is belong to God and the government
- the offering made by poor widow was praised by Jesus that she gave all she had (it is not 1/10 but 10/10)...
- early church had everything in common they found joy in that.... ( But they were not fulfilling the great command so God allowed to scattered them)
- Paul said in his letter if people are receiving spiritual blessing how much he is rightful to harvest material blessing from them...
So dear frnds I m not hear to nullify OT but to Say NT gives more strong emphasis to give our church more that 1/10 .... Which means 1/10 is the least amount to show our gratitude for God... What can be enough to offer our God .... Never mind whatever u give with gratitude....
Remember offering to our God is our privileged ....

Give a tenth or more of what God blesses you with. I don't give to a Church building I give to my community and neighbors where I live. And I do what God puts on my heart to do. One pastors wife said Church members hand money then walk away and the church needs people to give themselves or their time. There is so much hands on workers needed today in a our community and schools.

I also agree that you should pay your tithes to the church that you attend or one that has enriched you in some way. God will honor your obedience and will felt will church leaders who miss handled such resources. Remember we owe God. You give to the poor!
